  1. Why is our Salt Spa the most effective means of receiving Salt Therapy?

· Micronized Salt Particles. In our spa, we use a halogenerator (“halos”- Greek for salt) which is designed to produce salt particles 1-5 microns in size. This very fine micronized salt becomes an aerosol that can reach the deepest and smallest branches (bronchi and bronchioles) of your lungs and deep into the sinuses. Larger particles can’t travel as deep, that’s why other salt therapy systems are not able to do the job.

· Dry Salt. A dry salt particle has a stronger effect than saline solutions (water & salt) when it makes contact with mucus membranes. The salt must also be dry in order to travel deeply into your airways. Our salt rooms are climate-controlled to ensure the perfect temperature for salt to remain dry and remain an aerosol.

· Negative ions. Negative ions are actually a positive thing. They are abundant in nature and play a significant therapeutic role in our wellbeing. Beaches and forests are two natural negative ion-rich environments. Cities are positive ion environments which are challenging for our nervous systems and general health. Our salt rooms are negative ion-rich environments. One session can make you feel like you have been at the beach for a week. Negative ions are known to help increase the flow of oxygen to the brain, strengthen the immune system, balance the autonomic nervous system, promote better digestion and cell rejuvenation, increase metabolism and aid in blood purification. More so, it feels wonderful.

  1. How many treatments are recommended?

This varies by individual. Typically 6-10 frequent treatments are a good guideline for most people to experience significant results for many health concerns. The key to achieving desired results is high frequency of treatments when first starting salt therapy and during trigger times. Once results have been achieved, and during low trigger times, moving to a maintenance schedule can keep symptoms in check. Chronic issues will typically take more sessions to resolve than acute issues. Having said this, the calming effects of being in a negative ion-rich environment begin right away.

  1. How will I know if it’s working?

Simple – you will start feeling better! More specifically, over the course of treatments you may feel relief from symptoms such as coughing, tightness of breath, sneezing, runny nose, sore throat, congestion, clogged ears and fatigue, to name a few. The sensation of having clean lungs and being able to breathe freely is something many people don’t even know they are missing!

  1. Is Salt Therapy recommended for children?

Yes. Salt therapy is well suited for infants, children and pregnant women. It’s drug-free and is an easy treatment to receive. Children just play in our kid-friendly salt spa and usually do not even realize they are having a treatment. Research has shown that children respond very well to salt therapy. Pediatric asthma has been extensively researched and effectively treated with salt therapy.

  1. Are there side effects?

If you do not have any of the contraindications listed on our client intake form, it is very unlikely that you will experience any type of serious side effects. Increased coughing and sneezing are natural responses to the loosening of accumulated mucus. This is an expected step in the process of clearing your sinuses and lungs. Clients with asthma and COPD should pay attention to their breathing in their first few visits. For these clients it is sometimes best to consider shorter sessions (10-15 minutes) in the beginning and slowly build up to a full 45 minute session.

  1. What about germs in the Salt Spa?

We take the health of our clients very seriously. We keep procedures and rules in place and continually raise awareness with our clients about not booking a salt spa session during a contagious phase of any illness. The salt helps too! Salt has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties which help to reduce or kill microbes on contact. Additionally, the air in each spa is constantly moving through and out of the room during every session. The salt on the floor and walls helps us to keep a very clean environment.

  1. I thought too much salt was bad for you. Why not in this case?

Too much ingested salt may be a concern for those with high blood pressure, but in Salt Therapy you are inhaling the salt, and only minimal amounts of salt are actually ingested. The amount of salt ingested in a session is less than the amount of salt on one potato chip!

  1. What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing. We provide foot covers for you to wear to keep our salt spa clean. Dark clothes can look a little dusty afterwards from the salt dust, but can be brushed off with a little effort. The salt dust is easily laundered out.

  1. What should I do during a treatment?

In the Adult Salt Room our clients are encouraged to read, sleep or meditate, maintaining a peaceful atmosphere for everyone. We ask you refrain from talking during salt sessions. Periodically, you may want to take a few deep breaths alternating between your nose and mouth during treatment. In the Kids Salt Room, there are toys and books for children to enjoy and a comfortable bench for supervising adults to rest on . Everyone is welcome to bring personal reading materials into the salt rooms.

  1. Should I stop taking my allergy/asthma medications?

Although salt therapy can be used as a stand alone treatment, it is often used as a complementary or adjunct therapy to a conventional medicine treatment plan. Clients who experience significant change in their conditions during or after salt therapy should consult with their physicians to share their experience. You should never stop taking your medication without your doctor’s advice.
