Service Descriptions
The massage techniques you will receive are an integrated blend of multiple modalities. You will always receive the techniques which best suit your needs and concerns.

Swedish Esalen
While Swedish massage uses long flowing and kneading strokes that are generally nurturing and relaxing, the Esalen style brings even more flow and relaxation to that. It includes passive range of motion to loosen joints and lengthen muscles. This style can be performed with a variety of pressures and depths.

Deep Tissue
Often added as a component of Swedish, deep tissue is meant to address specific complaints in specific areas and works on both superficial and deep muscle layers. This therapy can be especially intense, as it alters long-held patterns, but in combination with Swedish Esalen the end result is still relaxing.

Neuromuscular
This therapy is also problem-specific, and often intense, which seeks to bring about balance between the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. The massage is targeted and specific, and can be integrated into any session of other modalities as needed.

Sports Massage

Especially for athletes or physically active people, sports massage techniques focus on soft tissue aches, pain, and injuries that occur as a result of pushing the musculoskeletal system. Many people claim in assists in faster recovery and lessens the likelihood of injury.
Assisted Thai Yoga
This form of Thai massage is suitable for all people, not only the super-flexible. The practitioner takes the client through a series of yoga style stretches, with great sensitivity as to the limitations of each individual’s flexibility and comfort level. This helps inflexible people become more flexible by supporting them through stretches they may not be able to execute on their own, and helps flexible people find a new depth to their stretches with the assistance of the practitioner’s leverage and proper application of pressure.

Chavutti Thirumal

A form of barefoot massage originating in the Kerala region of India, this was originally developed for warriors of the local martial art. Usually performed on the floor, the strokes are performed using the practitioner’s feet and an abundance of warm oil. Strokes are broad and firm, deep but not uncomfortable, encompassing the full length of the body even in single strokes. In this case the massage can be performed on the floor on a mat, or on the table for those who are less flexible in the neck or shoulders.

Abhyanga—Ayurvedic Massage

The key to this type of massage is the medicated oil. Oils that are steeped in herbs appropriate for each individual’s condition are warmed and applied liberally to the entire body with fluid and repetitive strokes. A deep sense of relaxation and ease is created in the client, and the benefits continue long afterwards as the oil does its work in the body and toxins are eliminated. This massage is offered by referral from an Ayurvedic practitioner or doctor.

What is Abhyanga?
The Sanskrit word Abhyanga means “all around, or including all the parts of the body.” It is a type of whole body therapeutic massage in Ayurveda. Warm, herb-infused oils are individually prescribed and used to address  specific manifestations of imbalance according to Ayurvedic principles. Regularly anointing the body with oil is viewed in Ayurveda as foundational for optimal health. Warm oil therapies represent the primary modality to reduce and stabilize the potentially disturbing influence of excess Vata dosha. Oil massage is recommended for increasing flexibility of muscles and joints, rejuvenating skin, and keeping impurities from accumulating in the body.
